Dalla torre del Municipio di Vienna, la statua
dell’Uomo di ferro guarda la capitale austriaca che, con ineguagliabile eleganza, si distende
all’orizzonte. Rathaus è l’edificio
laico più importante della città, un maestoso palazzo neogotico, sede ufficiale del sindaco e del Consiglio Municipale. Costruito tra il 1872 e il 1883 da
Friedrich von Schmidt, è una struttura di un’imponente bellezza.
I numeri raccontano la sua storia: l’edificio è largo 157 metri e lungo 127. Per realizzarlo sono stati usati
più di 40 mila metri cubi di pietra naturale e 30 milioni di tegole.
Colonnati maestosi circondano i 2.804 metri quadrati della corte interna del Municipio, una delle più grandi d’Europa. La sola Sala delle Feste è lunga 71 metri, larga 20 e
alta 18,5 metri, con una magnifica vista sulla Ringstrasse.
Le quattro torri ai lati del palazzo fanno da corolla a quella
più grande e nobile che si trova al centro e sporge dal resto
dell’edificio, su cui svetta la statua in ferro divenuta simbolo della città.
Guardo estasiata ciò che mi circonda, riesco quasi a non avvertire il freddo pungente, riscaldata da da un caldo maglione e una giacca bomber imbottita, mentre sorseggio un punch bollente.

the tower of the Vienna City Hall, the Man of Iron statue view the Austrian
capital that, with incomparable elegance, relaxes on the horizon. Rathaus
is the most important secular building of the city, a majestic
neo-Gothic palace, official seat of the mayor and the City Council. Built between 1872 and 1883 by Friedrich von Schmidt, is a structure of imposing beauty.
Its numbers tell the story: the building is 157 meters wide and long
127. To achieve it were used more than 40 thousand cubic meters of
natural stone, and 30 million of tiles.
Majestic colonnades surrounding the 2,804 square meters of the City Hall courtyard, one of the largest in Europe. The dance hall is 71 meters long, 20 wide and 18.5 meters high, with a magnificent view of the Ringstrasse.
The four towers on the sides of the building are the corolla to the
greatest and noblest one that is in the middle and protrudes from the rest
of the building, on which stands the iron statue became a symbol of the
city.
I
look enraptured my surroundings, I can almost not feel the biting cold,
heated by a warm sweater and a quilted bomber jacket, while sipping a
hot punch.
