La Torre dell’Orologio di Mahmutlar è l’ultima delle 80
torri che componevano le antiche mura di Antalya e dà acceso alla pittoresca zona
della città vecchia.
E’ uno dei simboli cittadini, un luogo di ritrovo fin dal periodo ottomano nel XIX secolo, questa imponente costruzione in pietra
presenta in bella mostra l’orologio a cui deve il suo nome e conserva
ancora antiche iscrizioni che testimoniano la sua lunga storia. 
Notevole il contrasto tra questo
antico edificio e i moderni complessi di hotel e ristoranti che si
trovano nelle vicinanze. Dalla torre si entra infatti nel quartiere storico, situato all’interno del perimetro delle mura che in passato
proteggevano l’abitato di Antalya. Oltrepassato il bastione ci si immerge in un’atmosfera fuori dal tempo, lontana dal dinamismo e dalle
luci della città nuova, in un’area ricca di verde.
Proseguendo
verso sud in Uzun Çarşi Sokak, la strada che parte di fronte alla torre
dell’orologio, subito a sinistra si può vedere la settecentesca Tekeli
Mehmet Paşa Camii, una moschea costruita dall’allora beylerbey, governatore generale.
Addentrandosi ancora in questa zona protetta si
possono ammirare le tipiche case ottomane in legno, ristrutturate e convertite in hotel e boutiques.
Ai piedi del pendio si trovano il pittoresco quartiere dei pescatori e il porto romano, oggi  adibito a uso turistico per yacht e
imbarcazioni da diporto.
Degno di particolare nota è anche l’elegante minareto Yivli Minare con la sua altezza di 38 metri, che venne eretto
per volere del sultano Aladdin Keyykubad durante il XIII secolo, affinchè la costruzione, di particolare e rara
bellezza, fungesse da vero e proprio simbolo della città. A forma conica in punta, la
torre si compone di otto pilastri rotondi, che le conferiscono un
aspetto singolare, di grande impatto visivo
soprattutto per i mosaici dal bianco candido e dal vibrante azzurro
cielo, tanto da regalarle un aspetto quasi etereo.
Questa torre in mattoni rossi svetta sulla città e testimonia la sua ricca storia,
diversità religiosa e maestria architettonica.

The Mahmutlar Clock Tower is the last of the 80 towers that made up
the ancient walls of Antalya and illuminates the picturesque area of
​​the Old Town.
It is one of the city’s symbols, a gathering place since the Ottoman
period in the nineteenth century, this imposing stone building has a
beautiful display of the clock to which it has its name and still has
ancient inscriptions that bear witness to its long history.
The contrast between this old building and the modern hotel and restaurant complexes that are nearby are noticeable. From
the tower you enter to the historical district, located within the
perimeter of the walls that in the past protected the town of Antalya. After passing the bastion you immerse yourself in an atmosphere out of
time, far from the dynamism and lights of the new city, in an area rich
in greenery.
Going
south to Uzun Çarşi Sokak, the road that runs in front of the clock
tower, right on the left you can see the eighteenth century Tekeli
Mehmet Paşa Camii, a mosque built by then beylerbey, governor general.
Further on in this protected area you can admire the typical Ottoman
wooden houses, restructured and converted into hotels and shops.
At the foot of the slope you will find the picturesque fishing
district and the Roman harbor, now used as a tourist destination for
yachts and recreational crafts.
Of
particular note is also the elegant Yivli Minare minaret with its
height of 38 meters, which was erected at the wish of Sultan Aladdin
Keyykubad during the thirteenth century, a construction of
particular and rare beauty, to function as a true symbol of the city. With a conical shape in the tip, the tower consists of eight round
pillars, giving it a singular appearance of great visual impact
especially for mosaics of white candy and vibrant blue sky, to give it
an almost ethereal appearance.
This brick red tower stands out over the city and witnesses its rich history, religious diversity and architectural mastery.
