Carthage is located on a hilly promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, an ideal strategic location in north-east Tunisia, about 15 km east of Tunis. It was founded in 814 BC by the seafaring Phoenicians and became a highly prosperous Phoenician port city. The Phoenicians ruled the seas from their strategic port at Carthage for almost 800 years but – after many epic battles – the city was taken by the Roman emperor Julius Caeser in 44 BC and leveled.
The Archaeological Park in Carthage is a territory with outlines of the residential area of the ancient Roman city located near the baths of Antoninus Pius.
In the Archaeological Park are well-preserved Punic burial VI-V centuries BC, the Basilica with nave Dating from the VI century BC, the underground crypt of the seventh century and other historic sites. The Park is under UNESCO protection.
The hill of Byrsa is also dominated by the imposing St. Louis Cathedral, built in 1890, a strange mix of Byzantine and Moorish style with a splendid view of the Punic Harbor.
I’m wearing a beautiful creation of “Pourquoime“, a top made of a fine fabric with the craftsmanship of details, a unique and exclusive piece, like every single creation of this brand, strictly Made in Italy. A lace cropped jacket and a pair of pants in the trendiest color of the season complete my look while I’m walking through the ruins, admiring the enviable location of the site, the beauty of the vestiges, trying to imagine the grandeur and the magnificence of the ancient city.
