Il più grande e maestoso dei ponti veneziani, situato nel cuore della città, fu costruito per attraversare il Canal Grande, l’arteria più importante di Venezia, in quello che era, ed è, il quartiere dei commerci.
Il Ponte di Rialto è il più antico dei quattro ponti che attraversano il Canal Grande, una vera e propria icona della città.
Costruito dove un tempo sorgeva un vecchio ponticello, ha rappresentato
per 300 anni l’unico passaggio per attraversare il Canal Grande. In
origine era di legno, e ha poi preso la sua attuale struttura marmorea
arcuata alla fine del 16° secolo, su progettazione dell’architetto
Antonio da Ponte.
Ha tre
passerelle: due lungo le ringhiere esterne, e una centrale più ampia,
coperta da un portico con negozi su entrambi i lati, piccole caratteristiche botteghe
che  hanno affollato la passerella centrale del Ponte fin dalla sua
fondazione; la maggior parte esse vende gioielli tradizionali, merletti,
oggettistica di vetro di Murano, e altri souvenir tipici.
Rialto è sicuramente uno dei monumenti di
Venezia più apprezzati e visitati dai turisti,
anche perché si trova in una delle zone più antiche e affascinanti della
città.

The largest and most impressive of the Venetian bridges, located in
the heart of the city, was built to cross the Grand Canal, the most
important artery of Venice, in the businesses
district. 
The Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the four bridges spanning the Grand
Canal, a true icon of the city.
It was built where once stood an old simple bridge, accounted for 300 years the only crossing to cross the Grand Canal. It was originally made of wood, and then took his current arched
marble structure at the end of the 16th century, was constructed under the supervision of architect
Antonio da Ponte.
The bridge has three walkways: two along the outer balustrades, and a wider central
walkway leading between two rows of small shops that sell jewelry, linens, Murano glass,
and other items for the tourist trade.
Today the Rialto Bridge is one of the most visited tourist attractions of the city, and it is located in one of the most ancient and
fascinating areas of the city.
