Case dal candido intonaco e portoni borchiati di un blu intenso, giardini in stile
moresco decorati con voliere bianche, piccole ed intrecciate
viuzze ciottolate in salita
che terminano in vedute a picco su una costa selvaggia dal mare cristallino.
Questo paradiso dal sapore mediterraneo è Sidi Bou Said, un carismatico borgo arabo-andaluso protetto dall’Unesco, nel nord della Tunisia.
Una Tunisia inusuale e fuori dall’immaginario comune.
Qui regna sovrana la tranquillità ed è impossibile non restare affascinati dalla bellezza e dall’eleganza di questa piccola perla affacciata sul golfo di Tunisi.
Sidi Bou Said deve il suo nome ad una figura religiosa musulmana di
nome Abou Said ibn Khalef ibn Yahia Ettamini el Beji che si ritirò
proprio in questo borgo agli inizi del 1200 per dedicarsi alla meditazione e alla
diffusione del Sufismo.
Dopo la sua morte la cittadina fu meta di pelligrinaggi e in
seguito visitata e amata dai più
importanti artisti di tutto il mondo come Paul Klee, Henri Matisse e Louis Moillet, per citarne alcuni.
Impossibile non rimanere incantati dalla bellezza delle bouganville fiorite e dalle piante di gelsomino che rendono l’ambiente ancora più elegante, avvolto da un rilassante profumo di thè alla menta e reso così accogliente dal calore degli abitanti nei confronti del turista.
Questo luogo magico esiste davvero.

Located just north of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, is the
town of Sidi Bou Said.
Seen from a distance, it shimmers under the fierce
Mediterranean sun like a giant mosaic. Seen from within, it’s a
labyrinth of winding streets and secret places, where crooked flights of
steps lead to hidden gardens and wooden gates opening onto
flower-filled courtyards.
Everywhere you look in the village, you’ll see its signature colours: dazzling white walls and staircases, with everything else a uniform
shade of vivid blue. Doors, window frames, shutters, decorative iron
grilles and elaborate latticework window screens are all painted the imperial blue of a peacock’s tail.
Doors are a special feature of the village, ancient, huge and heavy,
they’re studded with traditional motifs of crescents, minarets and
stars.
The entire town is simply beautiful, with bouganvillae draped from almost
every wall and doorway.
The city bears the name of a prominent Muslim religious figure, Abou
Said ibn Khalef ibn Yahia el Beji Ettamini, who lived in this place. 
Originally a place
of pilgrimage for visitors to the tomb of the 13th-century Sufi holy man, today, Sidi has gained the reputation of a city sought after by artists,
the place where they even stayed throughout life, more or less, names
such as Paul Klee, Henri Matisse and
Louis Moillet are just a few.
It’s impossible not to fall in love with the place, wrapped in a soothing smell of mint tea, and so welcoming thanks to
the extremely friendly inhabitants.
This magical place really exists.
As
