Nell’estremità occidentale di Minorca sorge
Ciutadella, antico capoluogo dell’isola delle Baleari.
Questa
graziosa città portuale offre attorno al centro storico di “Es Born” un
reticolo di splendide strade medievali in cui si ergono numerosi edifici storici di architettura barocca e gotica.
Assolutamente da non perdere è la Santa Iglesia Catedral-Basílica de Santa María.
La Cattedrale, costruita su quella che un tempo era la
grande moschea musulmana dei Mori,
rappresenta il più importante esempio d’architettura gotico-catalana a Minorca. 
Eretta per volere di Alfonso III di Aragona, tra il
XIII ed il XIV secolo, per celebrare la vittoria sui musulmani, si
trova in pieno centro cittadino, nel punto più alto del nucleo urbano.
Il sovrano ne mantenne il minareto, ora convertito nel famoso campanile che la caratterizza.
Sull’antica Piazza d’Armi, invece, si affaccia il Municipio, un imponente edificio del XIX
secolo costruito sull’antico alcázar arabo.
Il belvedere, dietro di esso, offre uno straordinario panorama del piccolo porto, situato in una cala ai piedi della città. 
Di straordinario impatto visivo è il mercato di Ciutadella, ideato e progettato tra il 1868 e il 1869 da Ramon Cavaller Gelabert. La
piazza del mercato faceva parte, in origine, del
convento del “Socors”.  La struttura è formata da una
serie di portici, semplici e senza ornamenti, che delimitano la piccola “Plaza de la Libertad” orientata verso la facciata dell’antico Seminario.
Indosso un “gastronomico” total look Moschino, mentre giro a piedi tra le antiche strade di Ciutadella, dove l’aria nobile, signorile che vi si respira viene da
secoli lontani, quando le grandi casate che arrivavano con le diverse
dominazioni, la sceglievano per costruirvi i loro palazzi “cittadini”. L’atmosfera marittima-bohémien che permea questo posto è ad alto tasso di seduzione.

In the extreme west of Menorca there is Ciutadella, the old capital of the Balearic island.
This pretty harbour town offers around the historic center of “Es Born,” a
network of beautiful medieval streets in which stand numerous
historical buildings of Baroque and Gothic architecture. 
Not to be missed is the Santa Iglesia Catedral-Basílica de Santa María. 
The Cathedral, built on what was once the largest Muslim mosque of the
Moors, is the most important example of Catalan Gothic architecture in
Menorca.
Erected by order of Alfonso III of Aragon, between the thirteenth and
fourteenth century, to celebrate the victory over the Muslims, it
is located in the city center, in the highest point of the urban core. 
He kept the minaret, now converted into the famous bell tower that characterizes the church. 
In the ancient “Plaza Es Born”, instead, overlooks the City Hall, an impressive
building of the nineteenth century built on the Arabic alcázar. 
The lookout, behind the City Hall, offers an extraordinary view of the small harbour, situated in a cove at the foot of the city. 
An extraordinary visual impact has the Ciutadella market, designed and created between 1868 and 1869 by Ramon Cavaller Gelabert. The market square was part, in the beginning, of the “Socors” convent. The structure is made up of a series of simple and unadorned porches, that 
bordering the small “Plaza de la Libertad” oriented towards the façade of the Seminary.
I’m wearing
a “gourmet” Moschino outfit, while walking through the ancient
streets of Ciutadella, where the noble air that you can breathe comes
from distant centuries, when the great families that arrived with the
different dominations, chose the town for build their “citizens” palaces. The maritime-bohémian atmosphere that permeates the place is absolutely seductive.
