Ancora prima di approdare a Marina Grande, il principale porto della magica isola di Procida,
i turisti vengono catturati dal fascino delle tipiche case color
pastello che si affacciano sul lungomare. Appena sbarcati
ci si trova dinanzi a un suggestivo e variopinto esempio di architettura
locale, il cui pezzo più pregiato è l’imponente Palazzo Montefusco che
sorge proprio davanti al molo di approdo. Detto anche “Palazzo Merlato”
per via della splendida merlatura che lo caratterizza, questo edificio
del XII secolo è stato un tempo la residenza estiva del re.
Marina Grande conserva l’atmosfera tipica di un villaggio di pescatori, dove
ancora oggi si vende il pesce fresco direttamente dalle “cianciole”, le tradizioali imbarcazioni in legno colorate.
Il porto è il centro sociale ed economico di Procida, qui si
trovano la maggior parte dei negozi di artigianato locale, dove acquistare le ceramiche dipinte a mano, ma anche ottimi
ristoranti dove gustare le specialità culinarie dell’isola.
Indosso un giubbotto in denim ricamato, come dettano le ultime tendenze moda, e un abito in seta plissè, negli stessi colori di una delle cianciole che fanno da cornice coloratissima al lungomare della vivace via Roma.

Even before arriving in Marina Grande,
the main harbor of the amazing island of Procida, the tourists are captured by
the charm of the typical pastel-hued houses overlooking the
waterfront. On disembarking from the ferry-boat you are in front of an
impressive and colorful example of local architecture, whose most
valuable piece is the imposing Palazzo Montefusco, located right in
front of the landing pier. Also called “Palace Merlato” because of the
beautiful battlements that characterizes it, this twelfth century
building was once the summer residence of the king.
While maintaining the atmosphere of a fishing village, where fresh fish is still sold directly  from the “cianciole” the typical colorful wooden boats, Marina Grande is the
economic and social centre of Procida. Here you will find many local craft shops, where to buy the hand-painted ceramics, but there are also excellent restaurants where you can taste the culinary specialties of the island.
