Indescrivibili le suggestioni e il fascino che restituiscono le rovine della Igreja do Carmo, la chiesa del Carmine a Lisbona distrutta dal terremoto devastante del 1755, considerata l’assolutà unicità del sito conservato come un rudere.
Dalla parte più bassa della città, il quartiere Baixa, basta prendere l’ascensore di Santa Justa e salire tutti i suoi 36 metri d’altezza per poter incrociare lo scheletro di quella che era la più imponente chiesa gotica della capitale portoghese, nel quartiere degli artisti del Chiado.
Gli archi gotici sono rimasti a cielo aperto senza tetto e copertura, così come li distrusse il sisma.
Ne percepisci immediatamente la maestosità intatta, nonostante la mancata ricostruzione che, al contrario, ha sancito il successo del recupero di un bene architettonico di rilievo, peraltro tra i più visitati al mondo.
Un’opera profondamente ferita, eppure così intrigante e assolutamente imponente, con le sue ampie navate che lasciano guardare il cielo attraverso archi sospesi.

The suggestions and charm that return the ruins of the
Igreja do Carmo are indescribable, the famous church in Lisbon destroyed by the
devastating earthquake of 1755, considered the absolute uniqueness of
the site.
From
the lower part of the city, the Baixa district, just take the elevator of
Santa Justa and climb all its 36 meters high to be able to cross the
skeleton of what was once the most imposing Gothic church in the
Portuguese capital, in the neighborhood artists of Chiado.
The Gothic arches remained open air without a roof, as well as the earthquake destroyed them.
