On a beautiful late-summer day, Nice is a kaleidoscope of colors and shades, similar to the bright palette of Matisse, almost a firework painting.
Depending on the light, it changes appearance and lights up a thousand wonders.
The light first of all.
Here the light is really something special.
It illuminates the maze of old town streets and paints the coastline profiles. Makes the blue of the sea deepest and the sky even bigger. It heats the squares of the city-center, shrinks mysterious shadows and animates the neighborhood markets. It bringing life to colors, that become radiant, noble, sparkling and generous. The colors are everywhere, as in a moving picture.
The shades are really infinite, sometimes in contrast and sometimes in a perfect match game.
There is the Pompeian red and yellow ocher of the Baroque palaces, the dark red of bell towers and roofs of buildings in the heart of the old town, the blue of the chairs in a row in front of the promenade, the green of palm trees and gardens, purple, yellow and turquoise of the boats anchored in the picturesque port, pink, lilac and coral of the delicious Provencal flowers of the “Cours Saleya” market, the pastel colors of the macarons in beautiful show in the windows of the pâtisserie.
And, above all, the orange of the sun that goes down on the Côte d’Azur sea and seduces with its splendor. Sunset, here, is said to be one of the most beautiful in the world.
Nice is a city that has always fascinated with its colors and Belle Époque atmosphere, its dynamic lifestyle and its fascinating mix of history and modernity.
I’m in the pedestrian heart of the city, Place Masséna, the most impressive square, the jewel of Nice, with the beautiful dancing “Fontaine du Soleil” and the seven enormous statues of the Catalan sculptor Jaume Plensa, symbolizing the continents.
I’m wearing a check print blouse and shorts in the colors of the macarons, while, like a dive in the ‘700, I lose myself in a stimulating artistic environment, among the retro charm of a city of tourism, where everywhere you can breathe culture.
