Fira è il capoluogo di Santorini, un piccolo
villaggio dai caratteristici vicoli lastricati dove dominano i colori
del bianco delle case, dell’azzurro delle porte e delle finestre e del
blu delle cupole delle chiese.
Situata nella parte
occidentale dell’isola, a pochi chilometri dal porto vecchio, arroccata sul margine alto della caldera, a circa 300 metri sul
livello del mare, ad ogni angolo svela d’improvviso splendidi scorci, regalando una
vista mozzafiato sul vulcano sommerso.
Affascinante guardare Fira da lontano: le candide case costruite direttamente
nella pomice, come incastonate nella roccia e agganciate alle scogliere verticali su cui poggiano, a picco sul mare, le une addossate alle altre e decorate con gusto, si
susseguono a perdita d’occhio. Ancora più bello girovagare tra le viuzze
strette e ripide, in cerca di angoli tranquilli e silenziosi o risalire dal porto fino al centro del villaggio a dorso di un mulo.
Mi sono persa passeggiando tra le
sue pittoresche stradine e ammirando il viola delle bounganville, la pianta rampicante che tappezza i bianchissimi muri delle abitazioni greche.

Fira is the capital of Santorini, a small village with characteristic
cobbled streets dominated by the colors of white houses, blue doors and
windows and the cobalt of church domes.
Located in the western part of the island, a few kilometers from the
old port, perched on top of the caldera margin, about 300 meters above
sea level, at every corner reveals suddenly splendid views, offering a
stunning scenery over the submerged volcano.
Fira
fascinating to watch from a distance: the white houses built directly
into pumice, as set in the rock and hooked to the vertical cliffs on
which they stand, overlooking the sea, each clinging to the other and
decorated with taste, are continuing as far as the eye can see. Even more beautiful to wander through the narrow and steep streets, in
search of quiet and picturesque corners or climb from the port to the
center of the village on a donkey.
I got lost walking through its picturesque streets and admiring the
purple of bounganville, the creeper that carpets the white walls of
the Greek houses.
