Il mio viaggio alla scoperta dei tesori custoditi in Italia questa volta fa tappa nel Molise e più precisamente all’interno del territorio comunale di Castelpetroso.
La maestosa struttura della Basilica Santuario dell’Addolorata, in stile gotico francese interamente realizzata con pietra locale, si erge solitaria tra le rocce a circa 800 metri di altitudine, in provincia di Isernia.
On the road è impossibile non notarla: lo spettacolo è davvero mozzafiato e man mano che ci si avvicina la vista diventa sempre più emozionante. 
Si tratta di un luogo importante e affascinante non solo dal punto di vista religioso, ma anche architettonico.
Particolare la vicenda che ha determinato la sua costruzione: il Santuario sorge infatti nel luogo dove, alla fine del XIX secolo, dei pastorelli furono spettatori dell’apparizione della Madonna.
L’ingegnere Francesco Gualandi disegnò una struttura imponente, in stile Gothic Revival, la cui pianta simboleggia un cuore trafitto da sette spade.
La facciata è stretta tra due torri campanarie ed è tripartita orizzontalmente da tre sezioni della medesima altezza, ciascuna delle quali termina con una cuspide triangolare. Al centro si apre una quadrifora, ai lati una trifora.
Più in basso sono collocati i tre portali strombati, decorati con lunette musive.
Il 22 settembre 1890 venne posta la prima pietra, ottantacinque anni dopo, il 21 settembre 1975 la Basilica fu consacrata. 
Indosso una lunga gonna in tulle, il modello più dolce e delicato di sempre, esemplare da étoile che calca lo street style come il più attuale dei trend, anche per la prossima Primavera/Estate, per una visita ad un piccolo e affascinante borgo del Molise assolutamente da non perdere, e a un’imponente costruzione religiosa da vivere con gli occhi e con il cuore.

A sudden, amazing profile against the background of the mountains and the sky, the sanctuary appears with its fairy-like profile to the traveler, shining at night with its huge multi-colored stained glass windows, its spikes rising like prayers to the Virgin Mary in Heaven. 
A spiritual sight that from afar already rewards the pilgrim with its promise of faith and glory. Here the architecture truly meets function.
The Basilica-Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrows is an important Catholic place of worship located in the municipality of Castelpetroso.
According to the testimony of the visionaries, the Virgin Mary first appeared March 22, 1888, to two shepherdesses, on the slopes of Mount Patalecchia. 
This first appearance was followed by others and the nineties of the nineteenth century, it was decided to build a shrine at the site of the apparitions. 
The project was entrusted to Joseph Gualandi.
The Neogothic church itself is stunning and imposing with the facade featuring 3 sections, with three portals, two bell towers and an octagonal dome and above it, an octagonal lantern.
The day September 22, 1890, was laid the first stone and began the construction of the sanctuary. 
It proceeded slowly because of economic problems and the two world wars, the sanctuary was consecrated September 21, 1975.
