E’ una città dalla storia affascinante.
Se ne incontrano le tracce in ogni angolo: chiese bizantine, castelli, moschee, meraviglie architettoniche che testimoniano il suo ricco passato multiculturale.

È così facile viaggiare indietro nel tempo semplicemente arrampicandosi sulla Città Vecchia, incamminandosi verso il castello Eptapyrgio, percorrendo i vicoli acciottolati in salita su cui si affacciano pittoresche case in stile ottomano, le più affascinanti di tutta Salonicco. 
Questa è Áno Póli, la parte alta della bella città greca, scampata quasi totalmente al devastante incendio del 1917. Lontana anni luce rispetto alla città “che sta sotto”, più moderna e caotica.
Eptapyrgio significa letteralmente “Sette Torri” e la sua origine risale al periodo bizantino e ottomano, quando veniva usato come fortificazione. Nel 1890, invece, è stato trasformato in prigione, ruolo che ha svolto fino al 1988. 
Una volta al castello, una bellissima vista panoramica sull’intera Salonicco e il golfo Termaico ti lascerà letteralmente a bocca aperta.
Il mio obiettivo è sempre quello di realizzare foto che possano emozionare e rendere giustizia ai luoghi in cui sono state scattate.
Un monocromatico e comodo outfit per questa mia prima giornata alla scoperta della seconda città della Grecia, meta perfetta per un city break fuori dai soliti itinerari turistici.

This is a city with fascinating history.
It’s so easy to travel back in time simply by climbing over the Old City…

The Acropolis of Thessaloniki known as “Eptapyrgio”, which means Seven Towers due to the castle inside of it. The Castle was built in the Venetian period (1423-1430) to resist the Turkish threat. The middle tower and the largest one was built by Tsaous Bey, the first Turkish governor of the city. Eptapyrgio housed the city’s prison from the end of the 18th century until 1988 and has now turned into a cultural center.
A walk through the narrow, paved streets of Áno Póli is a unique experience as this area is the most picturesque of the city and the panoramic view over the entire bay will leave you speechless.
