A short taxi ride from the bustling Djeema el Fna, La Palmeraie offers a tranquil escape from the lively souks and traffic-laden streets of the Old Medina and Marrakech’s most affluent district has often been nicknamed the “Beverly Hills of Marrakech”.
A quiet, sun-soaked oasis of palm and orange tree-fringed boulevards, neatly-tended rose gardens and vast swimming pools, La Palmeraie is home to many of the city’s most extravagant resort hotels and luxurious private villas.
Even if you can’t afford to stay in La Palmeraie, the scenic district makes a worthwhile detour from downtown Marrakech and the 32,000-acre stretch of palm groves provides a shady backdrop for leisure activities.
As well as walking and biking tours, horseback riding and camel riding are popular pastimes, and there’s also a beautifully situated golf course overlooking the villas.
Marrakech is a bohemian destination, with bright colors and a sweet life, at the same time it is one of the few still hippy destinations, where Westerners willingly undress dress code and circulate in slippers and caftan.
And that’s exactly what I did:
wearing the most classic white caftan, a peplum model, summer staple par excellence and protagonist of the hottest beach looks, which becomes absolutely glam, without losing even a bit of coolness, indeed, giving that touch of originality even in autumn, for example, paired with a pair of jeans, a micro bag and a pair of moccasins.
A simple way to make the caftan in the city really chic and wear it really all year, without losing the boho charm.
The comfortable, versatile and democratic dress.
The modern history of the object left with Diana Vreeland, the famous director of Vogue America in the Sixties returned from Marrakech with the trunks full of caftans and she began to write about them like “fashionable garments for beautiful people.”
Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent created luxurious variants and filled the wardrobe of the international jet set.
Even today, an evergreen piece, a radical chic passe-partout.
