Dichiarata dall’Unesco “Monumento messaggero di una cultura di pace”, è uno dei più raffinati esempi di architettura romanico-pugliese. 
Edificata direttamente sul mare da sembrare quasi sospesa sull’acqua: la Cattedrale di San Nicola Pellegrino evoca tutta la magia di Trani. 
La costruzione fu iniziata nel 1099, anno della canonizzazione del Santo, e venne portata a termine nel 1143. 
Tutto l’insieme ispira al primo sguardo un senso di maestosità e di grandezza, accentuate dall’arco trionfale che sovrasta l’accesso al transetto ed alle altissime absidi. 
Alta e imponente come un’acropoli, tre finestre e un piccolo rosone sulla navata centrale decorano la facciata, con le loro aperture ornate da figure zoomorfe che conferiscono all’esterno una certa plasticità e al lato un campanile di 59 metri che sembra sfiorare il cielo. 
La sua pietra calcarea chiarissima dona un contrasto brillante lì nella linea di un orizzonte blu intenso.
Sorge alla fine del molo, come un faro spirituale… un miracolo tra cielo e terra.
Indosso un abito che vede un insolito abbinamento delle righe al pizzo, ma assolutamente vincente perchè capace di trasformare la più elegante delle trame in un concentrato di stile vacanziero, mentre mi soffermo qui nel luogo ideale per godere di un pò di pace, durante uno dei miei bellissimi viaggi.

Trani is the kind of holiday spot that makes you want to send loads of old-fashioned postcards.
Most of these postcards will be dominated by Trani Cathedral.
It was built in 1099, where the Adriatic is already a promise of the Ionian Sea and surrenders its acidic green to a warm, intense blue.
It is as tall as an acropolis, with a tower that almost touches the sky.
This dramatic seafront cathedral is dedicated to St Nicholas the Pilgrim and is truly impressive.
The sandstone building adds a shiny white contrast to the immense blue skies and sea.
It stands out right at the water’s edge, at the end of the pier, where the conventional lighthouse has been replaced by a Romanesque Church with a 59-meter high bell tower.
A Spiritual Lighthouse… a miracle between heaven and earth.
I’m wearing a dress that sees an unusual combination of stripes with lace, but absolutely winning because capable of transforming the most elegant of fabrics into a concentrate of holiday style, while I linger here in the ideal spot to soak up some peace, during one of my beautiful travels.
