La città di Benevento è stata una città sannitica, romana, longobarda ed anche pontificia ed è per questo che vanta un notevole patrimonio storico artistico.
Il Teatro Romano è tra i teatri antichi conservati uno dei più grandi e più belli,  fu costruito nel II secolo dall’imperatore Adriano e venne inaugurato nel 126 e successivamente ingrandito da Caracalla tra il 200 e il 210.
Perfezione geometrica e grandiosità lo contraddistinguono, la sua pianta risponde, infatti, perfettamente ai canoni architettonici dell’età imperiale: un diametro di 90 metri, per una capienza totale di 15 mila persone.
In origine era costituito da 25 arcate in tre ordini, di cui si oggi si conservano solo il primo e una piccola parte del secondo ordine.
La cavea, ovvero le gradinate ove prendevano posto gli spettatori, si è ben conservata in buona parte e si evincono i tre ordini architettonici che la formavano: l’ordine tuscanico, ionico e corinzio. 
Le gradinate e l’edifico scenico erano ricoperti da lastre marmoree policrome e stucchi che ancora oggi si sono in parte conservati.
La scena, molto ampia, si presentava con tre aperture che portavano ad un livello inferiore e si è supposta l’esistenza di un altro ingresso riservato agli artisti.
Il viale d’ingresso del teatro era decorato con fastosi mascheroni, probabilmente, usati dagli attori in scena che sono stati recuperati e conservati negli edifici storici della città.
Indosso un outfit in B&W, dove una scenografica camicia con ruches è il pezzo protagonista, mentre rifletto che solo passeggiando all’interno di un’opera così grandiosa e ancora totalmente agile, è possibile comprendere la grandezza ed il valore di questa architettura che è ancora oggi usata nella sua funzione originaria.

Benevento
has been a Samnite, Roman, Lombard and even pontifical town. In fact,
it boasts a considerable historical-artistic heritage and important
archaeological assets.
The Roman Theatre was built in the II century by Emperor Hadrian and was inaugurated in 126 and then enlarged by Caracalla between 200 and 210. 
Its form is semicircular but it has huge dimensions: 90 meters of diameter and it could host up to 15.000 spectators.
Originally was constituted by 25 arches in three orders, of which today only the first and a little part of the second order are conserved.
The caves with a semicircular plan, made by substructions, was characterized by three architectonic order: Tuscan, Ionic, and Corinthian.
The steps and the scenic building were covered with marble slabs and stuccoes, still partly preserved. Behind the scene,
very wide, there were three staircases that brought to the lower level.
Then, it has been also supposed the existence of another entrance
reserved to the artists. 
The entrance path of the Roman theater of Benevento was decorated with sumptuous masks, probably used by the actors on the stage and then recovered and conserved in the historical buildings of the town.
I’m wearing a monochromatic outfit, where a ruffled shirt is the protagonist piece, while I think that only strolling
within such a grandiose and yet totally accessible architectural masterpiece, you can understand
the greatness and the value of this construction that is still used today in
its original function.
