E poi sembrare come appena scesa dal letto “is the new black”!
On Piazza Manfredi, next to the famous cathedral, is Trani’s castle, Castello Svevo.
Built in 1233 by Frederick II of Swabia, who was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1220 to 1250, the Castle in Trani was constructed on the sea to fulfill the purpose of defending the city.
The manor has a quadrangular shape, with squared towers at the corners and a central courtyard, while on the three sides, toward the ground, was later added the outer wall.
The Castle is famous as the site where Manfred of Sicily, son of Frederick II of Swabia, chose to celebrate his wedding to Princess Elena d’Epiro (Helena Angelina Doukaina of Epirus).
It retains its historic fascination, whilst also telling of knightly legends that have been passed down to us through the generations.
Nowadays, the Castle hosts many events, particularly during summer, including an evocative reenactment of Manfred’s wedding that recreates the medieval atmosphere of the time.

For this trip, which brings me to admire the magnificence of one of the most beautiful examples of fortifications erected in Puglia, I’m wearing an outfit that is not trivial and nor obvious, because a pajama-suit knows how to be cool as well as comfortable.
And… to look like just-got-out-of-bed “is the new black”!
