Acciaroli, in south-west Italy, on a sunny day is one of the most beautiful, romantic, friendliest and loveliest places in Italy I have ever been to.
Something extraordinary about the peaceful, red shingle-roofed hamlet of Acciaroli has captivated the attention of journalists, health and beauty enthusiasts, and scientists alike.
Here, amid the blissful landscape of golden sands and rolling countryside, at least one in 10 residents lives to – in fact, beyond – their 100th birthday.
Home to more than 300 centenarians, it is often referred to as the place where people live the longest.
Not only blessed with longevity, the older population of Acciaroli also enjoys an unusually high quality of life, with low rates of age-related inflictions common in the western world.
So why and how do so many Acciarolians live life better and longer?
The fresh and unpolluted Mediterranean sea air probably doesn’t hurt. Remaining relatively undiscovered has allowed Acciaroli’s locals to make the most of the untouched coast and mountains, and savor the great outdoors. The Mediterranean diet, too, is famous for its health benefits.
People in Acciaroli tend to eat locally caught fish, home-reared rabbits, and chickens as well as olive oil and home-grown vegetables and fruit.
The hamlet has been the focus of a study to discover the factors that contribute to its residents’ longevity.
After spending six months in the area, researchers from Rome’s Sapienza University and the Sandiego School of Medicine found that elderly people in the region have unusually good blood circulation for their age.
The study also notes that the locals all eat rosemary, which is thought to help improve brain function, and local varieties of the herb are set to be studied in a broader examination into longevity in the region.
I came across this pretty fruit and vegetable stand by complete accident and ended up spending at least a hour talking to the owner, and stocking up on my favorites ( i.e. fresh eggs)!
What about my outfit?
A big fan of suits in general, this season in particular, it is the striped version I just can’t seem to get enough of. This cool print is universally flattering and makes for a great alternative to the usual work-wear staples.
Easy to wear, and easy to style, basically, sky is the limit when it comes to styling this trendy staple!

A diet of unprocessed food generally leads to better health so it's no surprise that the people in Acciaroli live well and longer. Your graphic look is fabulous!

A presto!

Thanks for stopping by Akiko, happy Sunday!
Baci,
Flo
