Il Castello di Bodrum, originariamente chiamato Castello di San Pietro
è uno straordinario esempio di architettura medievale. 
La fortezza
domina dall’alto la cittadella di Bodrum e si affaccia con tutta la sua
imponenza sul mare, scenograficamente circondato dal porto. 
La sua costruzione iniziò nel 1406 ad opera dei Cavalieri Ospitalieri
e rimase un possedimento dei Cavalieri di Rodi fino a che il sultano
Solimano il Magnifico non li obbligò, dopo la vittoria di Rodi, a
concedergli tutti i loro possedimenti nel Dodecanneso.
Il castello fu utilizzato come prigione fra il 1895 e il 1915 e
abbandonato in seguito a un bombardamento che lo danneggiò
gravemente. 
Oggi appare restaurato e la sua enorme superficie, di quasi
2800 m², ospita un importante museo di archeologia marina. Alcuni dei
reperti esposti risalgono addirittura all’età del bronzo.

One place of Bodrum that no visitor to this great city should miss is the famous Castle, which overlooks the harbor and the international marina. 
It guards the entrance to Bodrum’s dazzling blue bay, in which the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas meet.
This castle was constructed by the Knights of Rhodes in the 15th century during the crusades of the middle ages, and it was given the name The Castle of St. Petrus.
It is a magnificent structure on the waterfront, is over 600 years old and is a superb example of a gothic style stronghold, where you can walk around the twisting passageways and towers designed to make the castle as difficult as possible for invaders to take.
The museum attached to the structure is one of the rarest underwater archaeology museums in the world that holds treasures that have been excavated from Turkish waters. 
The most sophisticated of prints, polka dots are just the thing to add interest to your more prim and polished looks.
